Scatterplot

Howdy Folks. Well here is my scatterplot with regression line for my project. Do not compare yourself with the regression line, because as you can see the data is kind of top heavy (which was kind of expected) and the regression line indicates that as a first year birder you should be able to see about 475 birds... HAHA! It looks like I will have a lot of explaining to do...

Coming Soon...

Starting next week, I will post random notes, charts, data, etc. for this project as I write/interpret it. It promises to be interesting.
If you answered "yes" to question 3 of the survey, I intend on simply sending your email a final draft of sorts, complete with statistical data interesting to birders.

Go DHS Panthers tonight!!!!!!

Birds and Birders -- A Statistics Project

Hello All,

Thanks for participating in my silly little survey!!!!!

******

I am in a Statistics class at Wichita State University this semester and the required class project is underway. For the project, I have decided to study an interesting relationship among birds and those who enjoy them. The purpose of my project is to understand the relationship between time one has been seeking birds and amount of bird species they’ve seen. I would appreciate your help by answering a couple questions involving your bird related hobby.

1. How many years have you been pursuing wild birds?
2. How many different wild bird species have you seen throughout the world?
3(Extra Credit). Are you interested in receiving results of this questionnaire after its conclusion? If yes, please indicate “Yes” and include your email.

That’s all you have to answer to be a huge help! If you run out of fingers and toes, approximations are fine.
I have arranged three methods of responding to my investigation. I will be gathering data October 6 through October 24.
1) By sending me a direct email (off-list) at jecalhoun@wichita.edu . It can be a response to this email or it can be sent as a separate email, so long as the subject line includes something that will not be mistaken for spam. If you have more than one response in one email, please be sure to indicate which answers correspond to one another.
2) By attending the Wichita Audubon Society’s October program. It will be held 7:30 PM Tuesday, October 21 at the Great Plains Nature Center. Janet Studnika of the Nature Conservancy will be presenting “Conservation by Design”. After the program’s dismissal, I will be passing out hard copies of the questionnaire to voluntary participants.
3) By commenting on my blog athttp://www.birdstatistics.blogspot.com/ . Notice that comments can be submitted at this site anonymously and without the use of email. I will also post periodic updates and the final results on this blog.

Thanks in advance to each and everyone that takes the time to submit responses!!! Each response helps to enhance the project and so all are encouraged!!! As you see fit, you can forward this message to other groups or individuals that may be helpful.A special thanks goes to Cheryl Miller for brainstorming help, Chuck Otte for KSBird permission and distribution and Kevin Groeneweg for permission to do my “homework” at a WAS program.
